The line from Norton Fitzwarren to Watchet was built by the first West Somerset Railway Company and opened for traffic in 1862. It was another twelve years before the Minehead Railway Company opened the line to Minehead from an end-on junction at Watchet. Train services in the early years were worked by the Bristol and Exeter Railway and later by the Great Western Railway (GWR). In 1882 the branch was converted from the GWR's 7 foot 0¼ inches broad gauge to the standard gauge of 4 feet 8½ inches. 0 3 Scale of the map in miles North Contains OS data © Crown copyright 2024 Contains OSM data © openstreetmap.org Map by Steve Edge © 2024 v4.1 wsr.org.uk Contains OS data © Crown copyright 2024 Contains OSM data © openstreetmap.org Map by Steve Edge © 2024 m4v1 wsr.org.uk The branch line to MINEHEAD
